I see what calculators are approved for the cfp test.  Can anyone recommend one in particular or just not recommend ones that suck.  Thanks.

    Hi Robert,

I purchased a TI BAII Plus for my finance classes in college about 4 years ago, and I used it throughout college as well as for the exam. I cannot say it is better than any of the other options, as I have not used them, but I found the BAII Plus to be pretty simple and easy to understand. If there was something that wasn't clear, there are a lot of YouTube videos that showcase how to do specific functions such as Time Value of Money, Ammortization, Cash Flow, etc.

    Rob,

I use the HP12C Platinum in my business. The size of the calculator and the layout are nice in my opinion. But if you are only planning to use the calculator for the exam, you should use whichever model your review course suggests.

Thanks, that's what I figured, and I have never used a financial calculator before, just graphing calculators, so I know there is a big difference between certain types of graphing calculators, but from what I'm getting at, there is not one best calculator that is better than the rest.  Thanks for the reply.

Hi Robert -- if you've been using a TI graphing calculator, I'd suggest sticking with TI for your financial calculator. I've only ever used TI, and it was fairly easy for me to transition from the TI 83 to the TI BA II Plus. Youtube is a great resource!

The HP 10bII+ came with my Dalton course materials when I enrolled.  I love it and found it very intuitive to learn how to use.

HP 12c Platinum is what I use. There is also an iPhone app for the 12c also so you can have that available in a pinch as well.

Thanks Brian, glad to hear there's an app out there for it. I was trying to find some online calculator, but the app sounds better.
