Exam Results Status Clarification

    Hi everyone,

    We've seen this weekend's posts. Annie isn't available at the moment, so I am stepping in and can confirm the status of the November exam results.

    Official November exam results have not been released by CFP Board. We are still in the process of finalizing all scores and still anticipate releasing official results the week of December 17th. The website and link that have been mentioned and posted on the Forum are from an old email.  All exam takers need to wait for official notification of results from CFP Board.

    While we understand how hard it is to wait for the official results, we encourage everyone to be patient for just a bit longer and wait for the official notice we will be providing. No other communication or information anyone has encountered should be read into, and all exam takers need to await the official results announcement.

    This site congratulated me for passing. Prometric then said I failed. What's more they don't even give you a score. I am sure I am now going to be asked when do I want to next sacrifice time away from my family and clients to study for this again so I can learn about ethics and professionalism.

    You're now telling us that after receiving the passing letter on the Prometric site that it shouldn't be read into? This designation means so much to everyone on this forum, we've worked hard to pass the educational requirement, study for the exam, pay the exam fee and pray over the holiday season. My wife cried this morning when we saw the letter. After the ribbon data integration scenario, I didn't think I would get my emotions played with again. This is very upsetting to everyone who took the exam. 

    How could the Prometric notice not be read into? A couple of weeks ago, I checked the very same website and my notice of completion was still on there.

    Wow, this is an egregious mistake. We are not reading into anything, we have a letter on Prometric letterhead with CFP Board's logo stating we either passed or failed.

    There is no way this could be happening. It says on CFP letter head "your official test results show that you were successful in achieving the passing standard established by CFP board for the CFP Exam."  

    How can we we not interpret this any other way?  This is beyond ridiculous?

    Same place the second proctor showed up 50 minutes late delaying the exam start and my carefully timed meal and peak caffeine times, had the room st 82 and talked just outside the door through out the exam?  Those guys?  They should just pass everyone and move on.

    Personally, I think the CFP board is going through and internally getting things set and just did it all at different times. How would Prometric update their certificate to say pass or fail, and if you fail, then list where your problem areas are. It just doesn't add up. Plus, how can some people's exam ribbons say completed while others are still showing in progress. It all just doesn't add up.

    They just need to take a moment, make decisions on open items and (fire Prometric) and move forward. I suspect all of the exams are graded and pass/fails for a limited few hang on  a few questions being tossed or validated and a passing score being set. I also suspect we are seeing the sausage being made and it is a bit unsettling for sure. I'd rather it not be so up and down but it is what it is....

    Jacqueline, have you seen the 'official' letters that have been provided by Prometric on CFP® letterhead? They certainly appear official and no mention of being preliminary.  Also not accessed from 'an old email', but directly from Prometric's global score rresults site by our exam confirmantion number...beyond confused.

    I think the results we are seeing are indeed our "preliminary " results and the email they send us week of dec 17th will be our "official" results. The link shows I did not pass and my areas of improvement but I did not score low in any areas. Ugh.
    i think it's comical how the CFP Board responds to all these issues. First the ribbons . Now this. They respond as though we are not bright and can not figure things out. I think this also shows how they are still behind when it comes to technological advancement and their systems need to be upgraded. Too many glitches in my opinion. Ok I'm done venting lol. Back to hitting the books.

    Not that I don't want to know if I passed any less than anyone else here, but the board did originally say that we would find out directly from them. Unfortunately, things don't always work out exactly as planned and I think the possible "error" by prometric should be viewed with a grain of salt. Again good luck to all!     It's ironic that a professional organization that demands integrity and professionalism from its members has shown neither to the candidates taking the exam this cycle. This is horribly amateurish, from the first debacle surrounding the banner problem to the fact that a marketing employee has to address today's concern, not an officer or CFP board employee with responsibility for these events. These problems deserve some daylight and fresh air. 

    Candidates have invested a lot of time, money and dedication to this process, and many have their employment contingent upon these exam results.  If the results provided on the Prometric site are indeed a mistake, this is a horrible way to treat your future colleagues and this is disrespectful of the commitment candidates have made to this organization.

Is it true that board falsely representing result on its own website and exam agency? maybe each one of us should have a conversation with authorities of how one of the most prestigious professional organization produce false representations on its media channel .

    This is an embarrassment to the reputation of CFP Board. I haven't been sleeping and especially not last night, thinking is this real or not? How can it be an error? It's not even reasonable for it to be an error. It insults everything we have worked so hard for for the last 14 months. I feel like we've all been through hell!
    CFP should be releasing this sooner now. Disappointing.

    Well Good Morning Everyone !!!!!

     Hey we all put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this and while the circumstances here are downright awful let us at least remember that delaying the exam results is as much as an anomaly for us as it is for the board. With that said I imagine it's going to be a pretty hairy day at the offices of the CFP Board and i'm trying to keep that in perspective.  The bottom line is that exam results weren't "announced" but they have certainly been determined and are posted as official validated results through prometric. It's not ideal but it's also not debatable. The results are in and we have our answers on pass fail for the November testing... albeit a week earlier than the board intended which means one less week of wondering for all of us and one more week of studying for those who did not pass. My hope and expectation this morning is that the board stays cool, tries to understand how all of this could have transpired but also does not get caught up on blame. Good people make mistakes and sometimes big ones. If anything this is an opportunity for the CFP Board to demonstrate its character by quickly and humbly owning the situation and communicating to us accordingly with complete transparency. Nothing short of that would be acceptable and nothing more should be expected.

    For those of us who have passed the exam congratulations! This is a huge accomplishment! For those of us who have not passed, no worries, keep positive, and stay in the game. Your celebration isn’t far off!

    Agreed Taylor. At the end of the day, we all took the exam and the focus has been on scoring fairly. I commend the CFP Board for recognizing that early on and working through their review process. However, this is a communication failure that needs to be resolved with dilligence and respect for candidates.

    I agree wholeheartedly! Not ideal for the results to leak out this way, but it seems fairly obvious that these are the results. Perhaps except that some "fail" grades may yet be adjusted? I sincerely hope the CFP Board transparently owns what happened so we can all move on to celebrate or study - it's been enough of a rollercoaster already! 

    Congrats to those who "passed" and hang in there to those who are yet to do so!

    I went to the original Prometric email & clicked "view my results". This provided me with an email saying that I passed. I'm not going to look too into it until we receive the official notice, but I agree with posts above stating that it would be very frustrating if the results turn out to be false.

I am just assuming that these are the correct results because the letter for people who did not pass got area of improvement results. I just talked to CFP and they said they are performing "quality checks" to make sure results are correct. They said the Prometric thing could have been an "IT error". Lady who I talked had no sympathy for everyone who is sweating this out. Just a sorry about the misunderstanding attitude.

    I believe that even if I receive the "official letter" other than the letter showing "Your official test results", all of the joy I was hoping to experience after months of time and money has been brutally taken away. I cannot enjoy and feel rewarded because of this "IT error." This is not just an error, it is a travesty.  ​

    ​I agree Andrew. I thought if/when I passed I'd be ecstatic. Not anymore. Of course I'll be happy, but my wife wanted to celebrate last night. It's not just tough for us, but our support team as well. She didn't understand why I wasn't excited.

    I think they know our scores subject to a question or 2 being resolved and a passing score being set. ALL PURE SPeCULATION but I doubt anyone goes from pass to fail but a very few may be the beneficiary of the pass score being nudged down. I know on my exam there were 4/5 questions reasonable people could honestly disagree upon.   Leaves a bad taste in my mouth but it shows that when you try to tweak too much to make it perfect, worse things can happen. It's a PR problem, not substantive IMHO. Failing test takers should get a no fee retest opportunity....

    ​I called and spoke to someone at the CFP Board.  They said this is where they were at the moment with pass/fail but it was not 'official' and we were not supposed to see them.  I said so I received a passing letter, but I could end up failing?  She said that isn't likely, they are just finishing some quality checks and they are trying to speed up the 'official' results now to hopefully Friday at the latest.

    I also just spoke to them and was told something different. That they are still anticipating next week for official results and that passes could turn into fails and vice versa because I was told the passing score has not been set.

    Yes I was incorrect about them taking the letter down. Mine is still there. I was typing in the incorrect code. I just wanna say that I have been following this forum and these are my first posts about anything today. I feel that it is not unreasonable to vent frustration with this IT Error. They need to hear these concerns and fix issues. I am not disrespecting the CFP credential as I put in more than enough work to earn it, and that's what matters. This is a separate issue not concerning knowing the material and doing what it takes to pass the test. This is an administrative issue and they may want to look at addressing shortfalls in this area.

    Just spoke with the CFP Board and I was told:

    1. These were preliminary results reflecting the current status of the grading process that were incorrectly published.
    2. While they are not "faulty" results, they are still finalizing the grading process and they are subject to change.
    3. They are working to publish official scores earlier than anticipated in light of the mistake.

    Did anyone see a letter that says anything other than a pass? Not to be a pessimist, but I'd say based on the law of averages it's unlikely that everyone in this thread passed.

    Just got off the phone with the CFP Board and was told that the results we are pulling up from Prometric
    are based on an incorrect scoring system Prometric used, so they are inaccurate and should not be considered. The representative I spoke to told me we would have our scores the 14th.

    Really frustrating. I understand that mistakes can be made by anyone, but this is hard to stomach. I am feeling hopeful that all candidates receive official documentation explaining this mistake, since we are all receiving different answer.

    I agree with most everyone. My results showed that I did not pass through prometric. ​So now I have to wait a whole week or more to find out if that is really true.... I took to much time to prepare and to take this exam with a 3 year old and a 3 month old at the time of testing. Now if I did not pass I am going to have to take more time away from them to study again. On top of that I don't know that its worth the stress and the waiting to re-test to have a pass and then it goes away and then get told there are results and that's not true.  I have stressed all weekend got my body yet again out of whack with all the stress to be told we have to wait even longer. I hate to be like this but it really stinks. This is so stressful and it seems like that is being over looked.

    Just called into CFP Board and got a similar answer to those above.  I was told that the results received were as of their current grading process, but could change.  Specifically they are seeing how the change in tax law could have effected people, that it is possible some questions could be excluded, and are conducting final quality control (whatever that is).  She said that the odds are low that a passing grade would be reversed.  They are trying to get official results released Friday or Monday.  I have my "passed" letter saved 4 different places.

    The rep I spoke to said the official results would be delivered on 12/14. This is unacceptable considering the emotional rollercoaster this ​error has caused everyone who sat for the November exam. I was prepared to wait until next week for the results, and then I get them yesterday, but not really? What is going on here?? The results should be given today or tomorrow at the latest. 

    I logged into the Prometric site last night with my wife, and she was ecstatic because she read the "Congratulations!" Then I had to remind her this is not official, and she looked at me like I was crazy. Now even if I get confirmation from CFP I passed, the moment of celebration is ruined. Also, I may have not even passed which would be 100x worse because now I think I passed. Please CFP Board, get this resolved today!

    I think a lot of this depends when you sat for the exam. I took the exam on the last day (Nov 13th) and the only correspondence I have received is an email from Prometric stating that my official results would be emailed to me in approximately 4 weeks.

    I received my pass letter on the Prometric site -- which the CFP board is saying was not supposed to be released yet.

    But if I check my CFP board account, that too also says I passed the exam.

    If they are blaming Prometric for releasing scores early -- who is responsible for updating our accounts on the CFP board website?

    As much as it stinks that they took away the joy of finding out you passed the exam in the long run I don't care if I never have to take the test again -- I just want to know for sure.... DID I PASS ?

    I took the exam back in July and received my preliminary results from Prometric and then my official results came about 3.5 weeks later again from Prometic with the rubric stating that I had failed. When I find those old emails and click on the old link, I have the exact same results and message from Prometric. 
    Fast forward to November, I received a completion notice from Prometric on the date of my exam and the link said the same thing. Now when I click the link and also type in the confirmation number manually it says I passed without a rubric. Therefore, I would assume that these are legitimate. The reason I say that is because our official results come from Prometric Electronic Score Reporting anyways and there have indeed been some people who have posted saying that they have failed and gotten the rubric this testing cycle by clicking their personalized links. 
    One other difference this testing cycle was that within 24hrs of taking the exam I got an email from the CFP Board to finish my profile and application on the CFP Board website which I did not receive last time when I had failed in July. Another indicator that I think my results are different this cycle and I passed. 

    This is a pretty huge screw up if they aren't official and they say they are official results on the appropriate letterhead. 

    Anyhow that is my two cents.

    Hope all those posting that these are in fact preliminary results because mine say pass! :) Would really suck to get official results that say fail after reading this, but such would be life. Won't hold it against the CFP Board or Prometric. Hopefully they can learn from their mistake and make it better for future test takers.

    When the 'data integration' mess happened a rep was on these forums telling us exactly how it happened, why it happened, and was pretty clear that it means nothing. While we were all still skeptical we at least had the information we needed to be informed.

    With this we are in the dark. It seems clear that these results are legit. If they are, can we get confirmation that they are at least preliminary results? If they are not legit can you provide any insight into how this happened and how? Having 'results' floating out there with people either being cautiously excited or devastated is not the right way to go about this. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we need more information and need the board to be honest with us as to what this is. My 'results' say I passed. If that doesn't necessarily mean I passed I would really like to know about it to mentally prepare for a potential failing notice on the official results.

    I just called into the CFP Board and was told by the representative that I spoke with that the results are preliminary and "even though it is unlikely that they will change, there is still a chance." I went on to clarify with the representative and she said that the CFP board is doing a quality check of the results, which is different than what my very initial understanding was of how the grading would take place (I understood that there would be no preliminary results and that the CFP Board would set a "standard" pass/fail once all exams had been completed and reviewed). I guess it doesn't make much of a difference as to what I understood and what is actually taking place, because only the latter is what matters!

    My prometric results showed that I failed, with the tax section being the only section that I received a "low" score on. I am starting to wrap my head around the fact that I failed and what my next steps are as the CFP Board representative told me it was unlikely that the results would change, but I suppose there is still that "chance" that on Friday that I hear otherwise.

    I did see someone else post that they were told by a CFP Board rep. that prometric results were based on an incorrect scoring system... This is all so difficult when there is so much information being passed around and provided from different representatives. Hopefully this is all resolved soon!

    Not looking to make excuses for the CFP board but my guess is they and Prometric had a hole in their planning when it came to how to release the results since they have never done it this way before. They probably gave the results back to Prometric and the way they stored the results was still accessible to anyone who thought to look at it through Prometric.

    Now they are trying to do damage control because they were not prepared for this to happen, don't like how the candidates are finding out, and the discussions (especially the legal ones) we are having as a result.

    Does anyone know how to get your Prometric confirmation number?  I was on hold for 40 minutes and no one ever answered at Prometric so I gave up.  Maybe someone has had success obtaining their number so they can check?  I'm freaking out completely....
    I kind of hope CFP can provide us some peace of mind sooner than next week given what has happened.  That being said, I suppose we can rest assured that it is out of our control and our fate has already been determined!

    My results have now shown up on the CFP board in my account. Exam shows COMPLETE and there is a link to view my Exam Results directly from the CFP Board website. I had received a Pass letter on the Prometric site this weekend. I just refreshed (for the 300th time) and there it was!! Still no email though..

    Hey All - congrats to those who passed! I'm thrilled and relieved to say I'm among you. 

    I just contacted the Board and was told I couldn't pay for the registration fee because my background check hasn't been completed. Anyone else <g class="gr_ gr_169 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="169" data-gr-id="169">hear</g> this? They also said they couldn't even confirm if it had been submitted, which would be very disappointing since I completed that section on Nov 13th. 

    The Board was sending out those emails trying to get us to fast track, so hopefully, the background checks are or are nearly complete.

    *Please update if yours shows as complete or you get a different answer from the Board.*

    Alan, go and click through the background check questionnaire a second time (if you are able to). Mine initially showed it as incomplete, but once I clicked through it again, it marked it as complete. I had initially submitted it before the exam. Then, it let me pay the fees (I have already had my experience accepted) and I saw my Certification Tracker all filled in! Lori

    I wish I had taken a screenshot! When I clicked on "Ethics" portion of the wheel, there were two sections with buttons. The first was the questionnaire and the second was the fee.  The one for the fee was grayed out. I clicked on the first button and clicked "Next" on each page, since I had already filled out all the questions. (I did add that I had joined FPA.) When I got to the last page, I clicked on Next, and then either was taken back to the "Ethics" screen, or had to click again on the "Ethics" portion of the wheel. At that point, it had a statement that I had passed the background search (with an effective date of 11/6/18), and the button for Fees was no longer grayed out. I then paid for the fees and got the screenshot that I showed above. Hope everyone else has success! Lori

    Hi Brian, the fee was an initial application fee plus the first year "dues" to the CFP Board. There was no connection or payment to FPA. (I had joined FPA a few weeks ago.) There was an option to elect a complimentary 1-year membership to NAPFA for fee only advisors.
