I found two CFP programs in my area—one at George Mason University and the other at Georgetown University. Has anyone taken either and/or can shed some light on which program is better? I am looking for an in-class experience close to the Bethesda, MD area.

    Thank you in advance!!

When I attended the program at Georgetown, GMU did not offer it. I was completely new to financial services, and the Georgetown program and the Kaplan prep enabled me to pass the CFP exam on my first attempt. The different modules were taught by the textbook authors in many cases. This was a few years ago, but at that time the program was very good, and I have heard nothing to cause me to think otherwise.

Jennifer, I'm in the DC area as well (over in Herndon).  I am considering the Georgetown program but I know the GM campus is closer to where I live.  Would love to get your take on the program you chose.  Thanks.

    Hi All,

I started the George Mason in-class program last year and our group just finished up last weekend.  It was great!  The instructors are incredible and the experience was amazing!  When I was deciding which program to attend I also looked at George Mason and Georgetown and and am very glad I came to the conclusion that George Mason was the way to go.  My understanding is that all of our instructors were formerly teaching at Georgetown but moved over to GMU after Georgetown decided to make changes with their program a few years back.  The instructors are a part of Dalton Education and fly in from all over the country to teach, a truly incredible and impressive group of instructors from Fundamentals right through the end.  Many of the instructors were indeed the authors of the books being used in class and they were all very knowledgable and accessible.  Additionally, the online resources provided to students are great!  Honestly I was thinking about going to Georgetown for the name but choose GMU as it seemed like a better program after researching it a bit and am glad I went with the GMU program.  I enrolled in the "Guarantee to Pass" which includes the review and I am currently using the Dalton review materials and am just as impressed with it so far too. If you would like any other references from other students or would like to talk on the phone about it I would be happy to speak with you further.  Good luck with your decision!
